I was hired again to help shoot Stihl Timbersports Series in Lehi, Utah. The show will air on ESPN2 this November and is produced by Career Sports Entertainment. Stephen Colbert did a pretty funny piece on the series found here. “These woodchoppers from Diet Australia have stolen America’s lumberjack title. I for one am not going to sit back and watch a bunch of foriegners out-rape our wilderness!”

Congrats to We Like Small, Push and Struck for their recognition at the 2009 Webby Awards. WLS and Push earned a People’s Voice Award for the Smokey Bones site. Team Thirteen shot, edited, and did some After Effects work on all the characters you find on the site. WLS also won a People’s Voice Award for work on the Cedra site. We helped out a little bit on this project by shooting the hand model. And Struck was an Official Honoree for the Pergo site they created. We keyed out and edited the Pergo the Dog videos for them. We Like Small had some additional recognition at the Webby Awards; read about it here.

We just wrapped up a two day studio shoot for Black Diamond and Team Thirteen will be editing ten or so web videos for them in the next week. We met a bunch of different employees from BD and they were all fun to work with. Special thanks to Matt Law at BD and Marty Patch from Cosmic who we always rent studio space from.

The Smokey Bones website is up and has been getting a lot of press (DMNews, Bizzia, Chainleader) for its unique social expirementation. Another cool thing about it is how each location can modify the virtual background, characters, etc. to reflect their own place. And finally, all the characters on the site were shot and edited/looped by Team Thirteen. You can pick up the ones on the roof and throw them, so go ahead and wing them around. Congrats to Push and We Like Small on creating a standout site conceptually and visually.

The final stop of the year in Alyeksa, AK! We battled poor weather the whole trip but on Sunday at 5pm the skies cleared enough to put on the event. All the skiers were mentally checked-out that late in the day, but everyone rallied and made it happen. I even got a heli-ride to the top so I didn’t have to lug all my camera and RF gear (probably 90+ pounds with ski gear) up 1500 feet….sweet!

While both events at Kirkwood were two different trips, I’ll combine them into one post. Again they were both live events in a place where a live event is very difficult to put on. Korey and I edited some short web pieces and also did camerawork in some sketchy locations and, for the last day, some really brutal weather.

We are back at our home resort for another event. This event was live-to-web and Korey and I were on-slope cameraman. We also edited a few V.O.D. pieces and right after the event was completed we compressed and uploaded the line cuts of the Superfinals for viewers to watch as V.O.D. pieces.

Crested Butte FWT stop #1 was the first live-to-web event of the season for us. Korey and I were on-slope and had to haul up all our camera as well as the RF transmitting gear to our position. Our camera feed was then beamed down via RF to the production tent which also had three 900s cabled in. Since the venue was in a remote location, the satelitte and all the production gear had to be loaded into a cat and then powered by generators. It was a pretty big production to put on considering the location and weather.

We are in Crested Butte for two weeks and two events. The first one is stop two of three of The North Face Masters. Locals Clif Dimon and Susan Mol won. Korey and I were on-slope cameraman and edited six V.O.D. pieces during and after the event.

In addition to working on The North Face Masters series, we are also working with Mountain Sports International on the Freeskiing World Tour this winter. The tour has five stops and the first one was a qualifying event at Telluride this past weekend. This event will be the easiest for us; we just had to shoot for two days and make one highlight video at the end. Conditions were hardpack but the skiers went big anyways. Telluride is located in one of the most beautiful valleys in the lower 48 so it’s a great place to be for a few days. Next stop: Crested Butte.

I was hired by Struck as a cameraman to shoot a missing shot for Utah Tourism’s new commercial. Everything was shot, edited, and color corrected but the first shot: a moving shot of passing by a ‘Welcome to Utah’ sign. Sounds simple but we had to bring down a 15′ by 8′ canvas sign and drape it over the old one on the Arizona border. Since the road at our planned destination was way too bumpy, we went to a different border in Monument Valley and got the shot. It was a fun shoot with Anne and Craig, they know how to problem-solve and get things done!

Team Thirteen is working with event producers Mountain Sports International to produce online content and television shows for The North Face Masters snowboard contests. There are three events this year in UT, CA, and AK. The first event was this weekend. We shot and edited seven online videos in three days and then edited two more videos of the winners being interviewed a couple days later. It was a hectic event but it was good to see some great riding and there was also a surprise appearance by Travis Rice.

After finishing up another Bridger Bowl commercial, I left for Bozeman, Montana for two weeks to ski Bridger’s new lift. The terrain it accesses is amazing. The trip was super fun and now I’m back in Utah for a couple weeks.

I recently volunteered to help the Greater Salt Lake Area Chapter Of The Red Cross with some media work. My first project was redesigning their blog which I just finished. It turned out decent considering I don’t really know how to code properly. Thanks to the guys at We Like Small for helping me figure out some coding issues that had me stumped.
